Seeing as, when DBS checks are requested, they’re generally required shortly after, it is important to handle this situation as quickly as possible. This is why we at DBS Checks Online have put together this guide to lost DBS certificates. Keep reading to find out what you should do next if you haven’t received yours.
CRITERIA FOR A DBS CHECK REPRINT
As is to be expected, you cannot simply request a reprint of your certificate if you feel like it. You need to meet certain requirements set out by the Disclosure and Barring Service. Here are the criteria you need to meet in order to be qualified for a DBS check reprint:
- Your DBS check certificate was issued over 14 days ago, but you have yet to receive it
- The address you requested your reprinted certificate to be sent to matches the address given on your original DBS application
- You request a reprint of the certificate within three months (93 days) of the original date of issue
CASES IN WHICH YOU CANNOT REQUEST A DBS CHECK REPRINT
Unfortunately, not every case of a lost DBS certificate can be easily remedied. The Disclosure and Barring Service will not issue a reprint in the following circumstances:
- The postal address on the reprint application is incorrect or different to the address cited on the original application
- The certificate was accidentally lost or destroyed after it was received
- A reprint of the certificate has already been dispatched, and the copy has not been received
- The DBS certificate was issued more than three months (93 days) ago
- You requested an online Basic DBS Check – only Standard DBS Checks and Enhanced DBS Checks can be reissued if you didn’t request a hardcopy originally
- If an address has shared mailboxes, in which case the incorrect person may have taken it
If you have moved address since your application was submitted you will need to set up mail redirection before requesting a DBS certificate reprint. Go to the Royal Mail website for more information on how to do this. The address you gave us on your DBS application can’t be changed.
If your reprint request meets the criteria, complete the relevant reprint form and email it to DBSReprints@dbs.gov.uk.

WHAT IF I NEED TO REPRINT A BASIC CERTIFICATE?
A reprint will not be provided if a paper copy of your certificate was not requested on the original application form before it was submitted for processing. However, if you did request a hard copy on your application form, allow 14 days for the certificate to be delivered to your postal address, once your Basic DBS Check has been issued.
If you do not have a DBS online account (or your DBS online account is not linked to your DBS profile), you can request a reprint of your certificate by calling us on 0300 0200 190.
You can then request a reprint of your certificate online via the DBS government website. Alternatively, you can contact the DBS on 03000 200 190. However, it is important to keep in mind that reprint requests must be made within three months (93 days) of the certificate issue date. The replacement DBS certificate can also only be re-issued to the originally provided address of the recipient. Lastly, the Disclosure and Barring Service will only issue one DBS certificate reprint.
