Do I Still Need A DBS Check If I’m Already Authorised?
MOT Testers who are already authorised do not need to obtain a DBS check. However, if you intent to make any changes or additions to your authorisation, you will need to provide the DVSA with a current DBS check. Alternatively, if any disciplinary action has been taken against you, the DVSA may require a DBS check too.
Can An MOT Tester Have A Criminal Record?
The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency will decide whether or not you are ‘of good repute’, so this is dependent on what your conviction is. However, as of 1 November 2019, all MOT managers, testing and administrative staff are required to notify the DVSA if they are convicted and given one of the following punishments:
- A fine greater than a level 4 (£2,500)
- A prison sentence of three months or more (or a suspended sentence)
- A community service order (or equivalent) where they are required to do unpaid work of 60 hours or more
- Any punishment imposed outside of the UK that is equivalent to any of these three punishments
